SEO for Photographers: Double Your Website Traffic in 90 Days

I work with wedding photographers all the time, and when this client came to me, it wasn’t a new story; she wasn’t new to business, but their website traffic had hit a wall. SEO for photographers is a hot topic for just about everyone in the industry. Her social media was working okay, but their blog was quiet, Google wasn’t sending leads, and inquiries weren’t as consistent as she wanted.

She didn’t need more content; what she needed was content that worked.

We focused on one thing: helping their site show up where their dream clients were already searching on Google.

Google Analytics graph showing 114% increase in traffic, 3x page views, and higher session duration for SEO wedding photographer.

The Problem: Gorgeous Work, No Visibility

They had a clean website, stunning galleries, and glowing client reviews… but behind the scenes, the numbers told a different story:

  • Traffic from Google was nearly nonexistent
  • Their blog posts were mostly image-based, with little to no text
  • They weren’t ranking for key phrases like [location] wedding photographer or elopement photographer in [region]

Like a lot of photographers, they knew blogging was important, but they didn’t have the time, energy, or strategy to make it a priority.

The Plan: Build Trust with Google and Clients

We created a 6-month plan centered around SEO and storytelling. Here’s what we did:

1. Weekly Blog Posts With Strategy

Instead of posting galleries and calling it a day, I wrote weekly blog posts designed to rank on Google and connect with real clients. Each one:

  • Targeted a specific keyword or location
  • Included 500–1,200 words of relevant, search-friendly content
  • Used optimized image titles, alt text, and internal links

Topics included real session highlights, FAQs, and venue/location guides, always written in the photographer’s voice and brand tone.

2. Backend SEO Cleanup

While blogs went live, I worked behind the scenes to:

  • Update SEO titles and meta descriptions on core pages
  • Optimize image sizes and filenames
  • Fix broken links and clean up site structure for a better user experience

3. Repurpose and Promote

Each blog was repurposed into short Pinterest pins, email campaigns, Instagram captions, and Instagram Stories. When applicable, we even made reels and TikTok videos about the blog topics that all drove traffic back to the site. We weren’t just writing, we were building a traffic engine.

4. Prioritize getting Authoritative Backlinks

We didn’t just write and hope for clicks; we prioritized building relationships to boost credibility and visibility. Each blog was reviewed for opportunities to earn authoritative backlinks from relevant websites, vendor features, and directories. When possible, we pitched the content for guest blogs, roundup features, and collaborations that linked back to the site. It wasn’t just about writing good content; it was about ensuring it got seen and trusted.

The Results: Traffic Doubled in 90 Days

After three months, their analytics started showin showed clear wins:

  • 114% increase in organic traffic from Google
  • Blog page views tripled
  • Time on site doubled
  • Inquiries started coming in with phrases like “I was googling….”

Even better? These blogs continue to drive traffic long after they were posted, no daily content creation required. This is why SEO for photographes is so important! We are still in the contract term, but now, 5 months in, results are still on the rise!

SEO for Photographers Is Worth It

If you’ve been putting off blogging because you “don’t know what to write,” or you’re not sure it’s worth the time, this is your sign. SEO may be slower than social media, but it’s consistent, scalable, and brings in clients already looking for what you do.

And you don’t have to do it alone.
